Olive Llewellyn-‘Robbie’: 22 February 1945
Edith’s sister Olive was married in February 1945 at the age of 53 in 1945 to Stenson Roberts (‘Robbie’). The wedding photo shows the Llewellyn family in its finery including Annie Llewellyn (nee Kershaw), mother to the family. She was known affectionately as ‘Little Granny’. An account of the preparations written by Margaret Rocyn-Jones to sister Edith in the Isle of Man makes fascinating reading. In particular the mention of the fear of V2 rocket attacks which inhibited a potential but nervous guest. The war was still very much ‘on’ at the time (Edith Helen Greenfield – second row right, is wearing a Naval Wren’s uniform) only finishing in Europe in September, though by March 1945 it was in the final stages. 1,358 V.2.’s were fired at London in 1944/45, and the final two exploded in Britain on 27 March 1945. A Municipal notice about ‘EVACUATION’ is on the church noticeboard to the right.
